What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic is a patient-centred healthcare profession focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

Does chiropractic treatment hurt?

Typically, no. Occasionally, patients may experience some local soreness or aching in the muscles or spinal joints after receiving an adjustment. It is entirely normal as we are breaking down adhesions within the muscle fibres and joints to restore function. When this does occur, it generally tends to appear immediately or within the first few hours following treatment. Using a wrapped ice pack on the area for 10 minutes can help relieve the pain. It rarely lasts longer than 24 – 48 hours (if it does, please contact us for assistance).

What should I expect at my first visit?

Your first visit involves a thorough consultation and physical examination to understand your health history before developing a plan and commencing with your first treatment.

What is the cracking sound?

The cracking sound, or joint cavitation, is the release of gas bubbles (oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide) from the joint fluid. It is a natural byproduct of the adjustment and is not painful.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are committed to providing clarity and transparency in your care. Find answers to common questions about our clinic and chiropractic approach below.

Is treatment suitable for all ages?

Yes, we provide tailored care for the whole family, from gentle newborn check-ups to restorative care for seniors.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your condition. We will discuss a personalised plan during your initial consultation. Recovery varies from patient to patient, and the degree and type of injury one has sustained. It also depends on your current state of health. People with chronic health difficulties heal slower. A significant factor in healing time is how well you take care of yourself during the healing process: nutrition, quality of sleep, exercise level, stress management, water intake and emotional wellbeing.

Do I need a GP referral?

No, chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners, meaning you can book an appointment directly without a referral from your doctor.

Is chiropractic safe for babies and children?

Yes. Chiropractic care for babies and children uses very gentle, age-appropriate techniques. We always assess each child carefully and adapt treatment to their size, stage of development and comfort, with safety as our top priority.
